Javascript which is HUGELY important right now originally started as a very rapid implementation that they needed to push ahead way back in the day. Would have never thought it was going to be a full fledged development language for so many things.
Revolutionary and profound things are never realized on the front end and it’s normal that people think these big ideas will fail.
Major media companies are not prepared for the shift and impact that the internet is having on them – newspapers, TV, etc. There is a whole story yet to be written on the big media side.
Only 15 years into this internt thing and we’re still in the middle of growing and maturing quickly
The big surprise has been the fact that the browser has been persistent for so long and that it hasn’t really disappeared or morphed into something radically different. Since the browser is so ubiquitous, the browser is the easiest way to connect to a monstrously huge audience. RIght now, more and more features are being jammed into the browser and there is still lots of road left for the traditional browser ahead.
Feels that after the years of Microsoft dominance, it’s finally at a point that the online world has opened back up and splintered a little in order to bring back innovation and competition. The browser wars are back, startup are challenging large organization, things are very lively now and that is very good.
The future is all about openness. OpenSocial and data portability are pushing this hard. Even Facebook is talking about opening up more and more. Success in the future will be closely tied to this openness.
