Tim O’Reilly Web2.0 Expo Keynote

Web2.0 is finally moving into the Enterprise

Web2.0 is finally moving beyond the PC

The internet is really truely becoming the platform

Collective intelligence – applications that get better the more that people use them

Making data available to users is critical but also making it useful to users is critical – eg. Wesabi and how they are making spending data more useful and valuable to their users.

Cloud computing is the next frontier and has been emerging quickly over the last year.

The Cloud is key to the internet as a platform and it’s not about computers but rather a wide variety of devices

We will continue to see centralization in the Web2.0 space – this is going to be something that we need to be aware of

Data is the new “Intel Inside”

Critical to keep the web open and the data portable and inter-operable

We are moving to a point where we are being asked as users to share “our sensor” data – car tire pressure, GPS, laptop sensors, etc. – Ambiant Computing

Data is all around us and becoming more and more available all the time

Startups and individuals are at a point where they can leverage all that is the internet to solve some very hard problems. We are developing tools that make solving those problems possible. – eg. Google Earth to help fight deforestation.

Hate to be the cynic, but how is this different than any previous definition of Web 2.0?

@Geoff – you are absolutely right. This definition isn’t all that different, but the big difference between this year’s Keynote and last is the talk and embracement by the Enterprise. Nothing radically new, more refining and maturing happening.
